I'm getting a message prompt when trying to add or create a new user. What should I do?

Here are the most common reasons and message prompts that you may get when trying to add or create a new user, and the workarounds to resolve the issue:

Email address already in use

1. The user's email address is already being used in a different account.

2. The user's email address was used to create a trial account. This can happen if they signed in using any SSO options (such as Google) before their account was added to a class or before it was included in your roster.

Workaround: We recommend contacting our Support Specialists to help identify and resolve the issue as soon as possible. You can submit a ticket here: Helpdesk, and we’ll be happy to assist you.

Username already in use

1. Usernames are unique across the Typesy database, so there would be times that the username you're trying to enter is already being used by another user.

Workaround: Since usernames are primarily used for logging in, you can add a number to make the username unique. For example, if you attempted to use TypeSy and received a prompt, try changing it to TypeSy35.

Another option is to leave the
Generate Username checkbox selected when creating accounts. The system will automatically generate an available username based on the first name and last name (optional), appending numbers if necessary.

Message prompt during import

1. When importing a list of users from a CSV file, you may receive a message prompt. The reasons will typically be the same as those mentioned above.
  1. Row (number): Indicates which row(s) are causing the issue, allowing you to locate and fix them in the CSV file before reattempting the import.

  2. Email Already in Use / Username Already in Use: Specifies which credential is problematic.
Workaround: To avoid duplicate accounts, Typesy helps identify and filter out information with conflicting credentials.
  1. For Username already in use, follow the workaround mentioned earlier.

  2. For Email already in use, contact our Support Specialists here: Helpdesk with tthe CSV file you’re trying to import. Let them know which class you are attempting to add the users to, and they will review the file, identify issues, and help you resolve them promptly.
IMPORTANT NOTE
For Clever, Classlink and Canvas, you may submit a request to your SSO Admin to import your classes and students.
